Exclusive Interview
Fraction's Five with...
Mac & Taylor
Next up on Fraction's Five we managed to pin down tech trance masters 'Mac & Taylor' for an exclusive interview - 5 questions, 5 answers each!
Welcome Mac! Welcome Taylor!
1. How did you get involved in music production?
M: Well music production for me was always going to follow my love for djing. I started djing about 14 years ago now and from the first day i always wanted to learn music production but back then you would have needed 1000's of pounds worth of studio kit to get started and unfortunately this was not a option for me. In about 2002 I began to realise that I could build a software based studio so that's what I did and the rest is history.
T: It was a natural progression from djing for me also. I always had ideas what i thought would sound good and work in the clubs.
2. What's been the highlight(s) of your careers to date?
M: The highlight so far for me has to be playing along side one of my personal favourite artists Deadmau5 in the czech republic to 6000 people! What a night it was!!
T: Hearing thousands of people chant your name.. cant beat that feeling. It makes all the effort and hard work worthwhile!
3. Do you argue in the studio? Spill it!
M: ha ha well I wouldn't say we argue. but opinions and ideas do clash from time to time which is quickly resolved with a fight to the death!
T: Arguments no.. disagreements yes... which is normal considering there is two of us, but we always find a happy medium between both opinions and go with it.
4. Hardware or software...or both? Tell us about your studio set up...
M: Well as we both work in the same studio i can answer this 1.Both.. A nice powerful PC, a hefty armoury of softsynths plugins and samples, Trusty old behringer truth monitors Behringer xenyx mixer, Edirol PCR 800 Keyboard Controller. and our favourite toy the Access Virus TI desktop synth.
5. CD or Vinyl or Traktor or Ableton or..... - what's your Djing weapon of choice?
M: To be honest I am quite old school in the dj box so give me a pair of cdj's and a pioneer Djm 800 mixer and I'm happy :)
T: Call me old fashioned but you cant beat the old 1210's in my opinion. I think a lot of the technology these days takes some of the natural skill out of the art of mixing.
